Timo Nasseri German-Iranian, b. 1972

Overview
Timo Nasseri (b. 1972, Berlin, Germany) explores themes such as geometry, mathematics, architecture and calligraphy, combining Islamic and Western cultural heritages through sculpture and drawing. His work is inspired both by personal memory and religious reference, as well as by universal archetypes described through mathematics, language and rhythm, often reflecting on ideas of infinity, repetition and order. He studied photography at the Lette-Verein, Berlin, and began his artistic career as a photographer before moving into sculpture after travelling to Iran, where he developed an interest in the relationship between geometry and Islamic architecture. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Islamic Arts Biennale, the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Haus Konstruktiv, ZKM Karlsruhe and Maraya Art Centre, and is held in collections including the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Sammlung DaimlerChrysler.
