Nick Devereux

Nick Devereux (UK, born in 1978 in Panama City) produces mixed media works using an old technique called sight-size that was employed by artists such as Diego Velazquez. The sight size technique does not intend to convey a photographic reality, but focuses on the essential visual elements caught by the eye. Nick Devereux does not apply that technique to people or objects that we are familiar with, but to his sculptures which are made from diverse materials such as broken glass and scraps of fabric. Those abstract sculptures, arranged into dioramas and drawn or painted through careful observation, suddenly appear full of a life in a way that we would have never expected. Endowed with great plastic intensity, Nick DEVEREUX’s drawings are balanced on the edge between fguration and abstraction.

Devereux has participated in numerous solo exhibitions including: Inpainting, Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice(2013); As it is and not as it should be, Galerie Bugada & Cargnel, Paris (2011); Incipit, Galleria Diagonale, Rome (2009) and Nick DEVEREUX, Primo Piano, Paris (2008).
