Mounir Fatmi presents Fragments of Invisible Space, a solo exhibition at Sharjah Art Museum, bringing together a selection of works spanning more than a decade of the artist’s practice. The exhibition brings together works that engage with language, technology, architecture and systems of knowledge, reflecting Fatmi’s ongoing exploration of the structures that shape contemporary life.
The exhibition includes Between the Lines (2010), a work composed of a steel saw blade measuring 150 cm, alongside Heavier than Words (2020), which brings together a cast-iron balance with Arabic calligraphies rendered in steel. Across these works, Fatmi draws on industrial and linguistic forms to examine the relationship between language, meaning, weight and power.
Also presented is Technologia (2011), a print on Duratrans presented in a lightbox, in which the artist turns to the visual language of technology and its systems of representation. The exhibition further includes Ghosting (2009), a 29-minute video installation filmed in France, presented in black and white. Through moving image, Fatmi explores ideas of memory, absence and the traces left behind by systems, histories and technologies.
Bringing together sculpture, prints and video installation, Fragments of Invisible Space reflects Fatmi’s multidisciplinary approach to contemporary art, in which familiar materials and forms are reconfigured to question the boundaries between the visible and invisible, the material and immaterial, and knowledge and belief.
Fragments of Invisible Space opens from 7 October to 15 November 2026, at Sharjah Art Museum.
