Mounir Fatmi at Goodman Gallery, Johannesburg

Mounir Fatmi returns to Goodman Gallery for his second solo exhibition at the gallery entitled Fragmented Memory that opens on  25 May and continues until 1 July 2017.

In Fragmented Memory the Paris-based multimedia artist takes cultural objects he remembers from his childhood home in 1970s Tangier as a starting point for his work to show how the few elements of culture he had in his home have shaped his artistic research, his  aesthetic choices and his entire career. It is through these objects, that Fatmi draws a direct relationship to language, to memory, and to history in this show, because he considers these three elements dependent on one another: without language there is no memory and with no memory there is no history.
