In his works, Randall Weeks encompasses a wide array of references drawn from the pre-Columbian world (the archaeological ruin, the “huaca”), Colonial times (the Hispano-Moresque balconies from Lima, the “tapadas limeñas”), modern art history (Russian Constructivism and Suprematism, Brazilian Neo-Concretism), modernist architecture (Bauhaus, Mexican modernism), and Middle Eastern culture (the Mashrabiya, rattan weavings). Linking distant times and places, the artist compacts them only to have them unravel through myriad associations.
