We are pleased to share that works by Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim are currently on view in Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, following the museum's recent acquisition of the artist's work.
A pioneering figure in the UAE's contemporary art scene, Ibrahim has spent decades developing a deeply personal visual language rooted in his lifelong relationship with the landscape of Khorfakkan. Drawing inspiration from the Gulf of Oman and the Hajar Mountains, his practice transforms memory, place and lived experience into handmade forms, drawings and sculptures that balance abstraction with references to the natural world. Through recurring symbols, inscriptions and organic motifs, Ibrahim traces the passage of time, connecting personal history with collective memory while evoking the rhythms and cycles of the landscape that surrounds him.
Bringing together historic Pop works alongside contemporary practices from around the world, Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now explores how artists continue to engage with the visual language of everyday life. Rather than presenting Pop as a fixed historical movement, the exhibition considers its evolving legacy through diverse artistic perspectives on identity, culture, materiality and representation. Ibrahim's work expands this dialogue through a practice that is deeply rooted in place, offering a distinct visual vocabulary shaped by local geography, memory and lived experience.
Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now is on view at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, until 10 January 2027.
