Long Museum Acquires Asad Faulwell's 'Apparition'

We are pleased to announce that Apparition (2025) by Asad Faulwell has been acquired by the Long Museum, China.

In Apparition, Faulwell continues his exploration of overlooked histories through densely layered paintings that merge figuration, ornament, and abstraction. Drawing on visual traditions of religious iconography and decorative arts, the work incorporates motifs inspired by Islamic textiles, architecture, mosaics, and illuminated manuscripts, creating richly patterned surfaces that bridge historical and contemporary references.

Through these complex compositions, Faulwell examines questions of memory, identity, power, and cultural inheritance, inviting viewers to consider how histories are constructed, obscured, and reimagined. Apparition reflects the artist's ongoing engagement with the intersections of mythology, politics, and collective memory.

Founded by collectors Liu Yiqian and Wang Wei, the Long Museum is one of China's leading private museums, renowned for its significant collection of Chinese and international contemporary art.
