CC Art Foundation Acquires Asad Faulwell's 'Ascension'

We are pleased to announce that the CC Art Foundation in Shanghai, China, has acquired Asad Faulwell's Ascension.

Drawing on Persian artistic traditions, Ascension explores the intersections of cultural identity, mythology, and political history through a richly layered visual language. The work features Iranian mythological and historical archetypes—including kings, queens, and magi—rendered as masked and anonymous figures embedded within intricate patterns inspired by Persian rugs and Islamic textiles.

Through this complex visual framework, Faulwell examines the ways histories, myths, and cultural narratives are constructed, preserved, and transformed across generations. By blending ornamental beauty with themes of power, memory, and representation, Ascension reflects the artist’s ongoing engagement with the cultural and political legacies of the Middle East.

Founded by David Chau, the CC Art Foundation is a non-profit contemporary art institution in Shanghai dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and cultural equality through its exhibitions, collections, and educational initiatives.
