The gallery is pleased to announce that eight works by Marwan Bassiouni from his ongoing photographic series New Swiss Views have been acquired by the Swiss Foundation for Photography (Fotostiftung Schweiz), one of Switzerland’s most significant public photography institutions.
This important institutional acquisition places Bassiouni’s work within the national cultural archive, ensuring the long-term preservation of a body of work that critically reflects on contemporary Swiss identity and visual culture. The selection was made under the direction of Lars Willumeit, Director and Curator of the Swiss Foundation for Photography, whose support underscores the relevance of New Swiss Views within current photographic discourse.
The acquisition comprises eight archival fine art pigment prints mounted on dibond and framed, including seven works in the 76 × 57 cm format and one large-scale photograph measuring 76 × 101 cm. The selected works span the period between 2021 and 2022 and include New Swiss Views No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 (2021), as well as No. 12, No. 16, No. 21, No. 28, and No. 42 (2022). Each work forms part of a limited edition, with the larger-scale work, New Swiss Views No. 42, produced in an edition of seven plus two artist’s proofs.
Photographed in the studio prior to their departure for Switzerland, these works now enter a major public collection dedicated to the study, preservation, and presentation of photography. Their inclusion in the Swiss Foundation for Photography marks a significant milestone in Marwan Bassiouni’s practice and further affirms the institutional recognition of New Swiss Views.
