We’re delighted to announce that 'Mountain 4' by Hamra Abbas has been acquired by the CC Art Foundation, China.
For several years, Abbas has been exploring the traditional technique of marble inlay (Pietra Dura), reimagining it beyond its decorative origins to develop a new aesthetic language. Referencing Mughal architecture and its symbolic garden motifs—evoking paradise, harmony, and the cycle of life—she draws out the deep interplay between nature, colour, and built space.
In her research, Abbas also traces the historical and cultural significance of Lapis lazuli, particularly its origins in Badakhshan, Afghanistan, and its lasting role in the history of art.
Cc Art Foundation, founded by David Chau, is a non-profit contemporary art institution in Shanghai, committing to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and cultural equality on a global scale. The Foundation primarily focuses on emerging and mid-career artists, with a particular emphasis on artists of color from the Pacific Rim and the Global South, especially those of Asian descent. Featuring works created from the 1980s to the present that engage with pressing contemporary issues, the collection aims to capture pivotal moments in art-making while fostering artistic, intellectual, and social discourse with a wide audience—cultivating meaningful cross-cultural dialogue.
