Shaikha Al Mazrou to Unveil New Large-Scale Work at the Aichi Triennale 2025

Lawrie Shabibi is pleased to announce that Shaikha Al Mazrou will be participating in the Aichi Triennale 2025, where she will unveil a new site-specific large-scale sculpture created especially for the exhibition. Titled A Time Between Ashes and Roses, this sixth edition of the Triennale runs from 13 September to 30 November 2025, across venues in Nagoya and Seto City, Japan, and is curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation.

Al Mazrou’s new commission reflects her continued exploration of material tension, spatial presence, and geometric abstraction. Known for her bold sculptural forms and refined understanding of physical balance, she brings a distinctly architectural sensibility to the Triennale’s thematic inquiry into the fragility and interconnectedness of our world.

Curated under the artistic direction of Hoor Al Qasimi—the first non-Japanese curator to lead the Aichi Triennale—this year’s edition brings together over 60 international artists, with a focus on ecological, emotional, and post-national narratives. Al Mazrou is joined by fellow UAE-based artists Afra Al Dhaheri and Mohammed Kazem, positioning contemporary art from the Gulf as a key voice within the exhibition’s broader cultural discourse.

Shaikha Al Mazrou’s participation marks a significant milestone in her career and affirms her place among the leading sculptors shaping the future of contemporary art in the region and beyond.
