Yazan Khalili at the Espoo Museum of Modern Art, Finland

Khalili will paraticipate in a new group exhibition series at the Espoo Museum of Modern Art (EMMA under the umbrella title In Search of the Present . The exhibition concept will examine the representations and expressions of a human identity in the digitalized world, and, a human being in relation to the ecosystem and other species. The first show of the series will open on 12 October, 2016 and run until 8 January, 2017.

The artist will present his 2012 video work Blindness of Love and his 2016 project Hiding Our Faces Like a Dancing Wind. In the video Blindness of Love (2013) text and image merge to form one sentence that describes the pain of two lovers parting ways. Images and words blink quickly so that the flashes – the absence of the image – becomes more palpable than image or text, thereby bringing this gulf between the lovers and the words/images to the fore stylistically.

In the video project Hiding Our Faces Like a Dancing Wind (2016), Khalili works with the facial recognition technologies found in smart devices and it's  historical background in the colonial practices to examine how we disappear in the digital age.
