In Meeting the Queen the central form is the beehive. Beehives have appeared in several of my paintings and are a source of wonder for me. During my trip to India I saw a lot of beehives hanging like stalactites from the roofs of the ancient monuments. The beehive is like a city for bees and a complex non-human society and a model for cooperation. The sleeping girl and the calm water complete the meditative mood of this painting.
