Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim’s series Robots series, sculptures in cardboard and papier maché, are among his most recognizable works.
Their aesthetic is part utilitarian structures (scaffolding or pylons), part architectural forms and vaguely insect-like whilst at the same time humanoid if not robotic, bringing a science fiction plot to the rarefied atmosphere around a magical Khor Fakkan.
This highly coloured series, begun in 2018, took centre stage at Ibrahim’s major solo exhibition at Sharjah Art Foundation that year, surrounded by comparatively restrained black and white wall pieces.

The present sculpture (Robot 5) is one of the largest works from the series.
