Our Pleasure is a series of found photographs that were taken in the late 70s by a Glaswegian butcher holidaying in the USA. He was particularly interested in shopping malls as these were not part of the landscape of Glasgow at that time. These photos have in turn been scanned, blown up, printed out and presented in wooden frames. The photographs portray Americana, and indeed American values and activities that the photographer found foreign enough to want to photograph. What we are left with is a mythological version of everyday Americana, a value system that is used as a totem to which everything is judged. It’s a nostalgic America that is sold to the world, but one that no longer exists. It is important that we never took these photographs. It shows a curiosity towards America that is more than just our own.
