A real-time generative video installation driven by an original program that continuously tracks the Sun’s position around the Earth. Presented on two screens or LED displays, one dedicated to sunrise and the other to sunset, the work focuses on the shifting boundary between day and night, the daily moving line of dawn and dusk. Every minute, the system selects and displays a city where the Sun is currently rising or setting, using a live database that updates to reflect the changing solar arc throughout the year. A 3D-rendered globe accompanies the text: it rotates to the precise location of each city and holds it on the threshold between light and dark. As the next minute arrives, the city name updates and the globe turns again, producing an ongoing sequence of places
connected by the same planetary motion.
The work heightens awareness of one’s own position on Earth and the personal experience of light and time. It also expands attention outward, toward people elsewhere who are simultaneously entering morning or evening. Symbolically, the piece uses the sunrise and sunset as a recurring cycle of beginnings and endings. In Dubai, a city shaped by migration of people from different time zones, the work resonates as a portrait of shared planetary time and a technology’s compression of geographic distance, while echoing Dubai’s role as a place where many arrive seeking a new beginning.
