Parol # 3 (Rotating Star) began as a three-dimensional model of a parol, the traditional Filipino lantern whose star form references the North Star, a celestial guide used across histories of migration for navigation and wayfinding. In modeling software, eight different angles of the star were sampled as discrete frames and merged into a single composition, compressing multiple viewpoints into
one object.
The work functions as a map of perspective. While the North Star is a stable global reference, its position and meaning have been interpreted through location and culture, while the object itself remains the same.
