Omar Al Gurg (b. 1995, UAE) is a Dubai-born artist whose photographic work is shaped by a lifelong engagement with the medium. Raised in a family of photographers, he began developing film and capturing images from an early age, cultivating a self-taught approach grounded in observation and attentiveness. His images often focus on nature and strangers encountered in daily life, reflecting a quiet curiosity and sensitivity to his surroundings. For Al Gurg, photography is a meditative practice, distinct from his background in design, though both disciplines inform his creative outlook, and his photographs are marked by a careful attention to detail and atmosphere, often documenting fleeting moments of light, resilience and transformation within the landscape. His work has been presented in exhibitions across the UAE, and in 2024 he curated the fifth edition of the UAE Designer Exhibition, presenting over thirty UAE-based designers.

His early subjects — nature and strangers encountered in daily life — reflect a quiet curiosity and sensitivity to the world around him. For Al Gurg, photography is a meditative practice, distinct from his background in design, though both disciplines inform his creative outlook. His images are marked by a deliberate focus on detail and atmosphere, often pausing to document fleeting moments of light, resilience and transformation within the landscape.
Drawing on personal experience and Arab heritage, Al Gurg’s work explores overlooked narratives and subtle ecological changes, inviting viewers into spaces of reflection and contemplation. His interest in material, structure and accessibility is also informed by his parallel work in design, where he considers how objects and environments can be shaped through careful and thoughtful processes.
His work has been presented in exhibitions and festivals across the United Arab Emirates, including presentations at Dubai Mall, Abu Dhabi Art, Downtown Design, Sikka Art and Design Festival, the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival, and 1971 Design Space, Sharjah. In 2024, he curated the fifth edition of the UAE Designer Exhibition, presenting over thirty UAE-based designers.
