Fatmi presents his first solo exhibition at the Göteborgs Konsthall in Sweden titled 180° Behind Me, opening on 8 June until 16 September, 2018.
Fatmi compares the exhibition at Göteborg’s Konsthall to a book. Individual works appear as text fragments of several different narratives that contrast each other against the white backdrop of the gallery. Dealing with the multifaceted character of the written word – its beauty, violence and fragility – Fatmi’s works expose the layers of interpretation and reinterpretation that comprise our history. While reflecting on current threats against the free word these works seek to open the political potential of language.
